1961 ZRC Grands Fonds Serie 1

ZRC, a french Annecy-based bracelet maker in the 2nd half of the XXth century, decided to launch some highly technical and robust dive watches in the eary 60s. In 1961, the ZRC Grands Fonds was born, with this first iteration, called Serie 1 by the collectors.

Among several particularities, the Serie 1 comes with a specific caseback that can only be open with a specific tool, to ensure proper maintenance and waterproofness. It also features the large hands, for maximal visibility underwater, and the iconic tritium charges steel rotating bezel. Finally, its crown needs to be turned clockwise to be unscrewed, in the opposite way to usual screws. This design was supposed to minimize the risk of accidental opening underwater.

It is a super rare watch and it is always great to source one in top condition. This one developed a nice brown patina on the dial, lighter in the middle. Luminous material is original, on dial, hands and bezel. A true gem for serious collectors.
