1969 Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 MK1 “Long E” with box and papers

The 20th century marks the century of constant competition for achievements, the main questions of the time were: who will be the first man on the moon, who will go to the deepest seas, who will climb the highest mountains? Expeditions were led worldwide to be the first to accomplish these challenges.

Rolex, faithful to its principles and always in search of performance, has known how to associate itself with great historical events. For this watch efficiency will be proven by the first non-stop flight of Pan Am between New York and Moscow.

Motivated by the boom in commercial flights initiated in the 1950s, Rolex’s innovative force develops the GMT at Pan Am’s request. A watch thought to display simultaneously 2 time zones thanks to its 24-hour bezel.

The watch you are looking at bears the reference 1675 and is part of the second generation of GMT, introduced in 1960 and saw nearly two decades of continuous production. Resulting in a myriad of dial and case variations, they have become one of the most exciting sub-genres of vintage Rolex collecting.

It belongs to the first series of matte 1675, or Mark 1, recognizable by its long E. This dial was long considered the earliest matte dial variation before the Mark 0 was recognized. The nickname for this dial comes from the middle bar of the E in Rolex, which is much longer than on other variations and is unique to this dial.

The 1675 carries over the traditional 24hr blue and red ‘Pepsi’ bezel insert from its predecessor, but upgrades to aluminum from bakelite and grows to 39mm with added crown guards. This reference will lay the foundation for the GMT’s that followed and that we still know today.

The condition of the whole watch is just amazing, the patina is homogeneous and consistent. The hands and luminous dots share a cream patina and the bezel is nicely faded.

The watch is powered by the caliber 1575 movement (1965-1980) known for its precision and resistance over time.

The watch is accompanied by its box as well as the original booklet and certificate of guarantee.
