1969 Rolex Oyster Date 1500 in 18kt yellow gold “Black Crown”
The 20th century was a century of constant competition for the great watchmakers. A century of great innovations, some brands, most notably Rolex, distinguished themselves by their technical and innovative prowess. Just like the bold and envied big brother, Rolex stood out almost everywhere, fearing nothing.
In the 60s, Rolex released the Oyster Perpetual Date Ref.1500. Close to its cousin the Rolex Datejust, it features famous date window at 3 o’clock and a smaller yet similar case of 34mm, making one of the best choices nowadays for both vintage enthusiasts and sophisticated women collectors.
But this model is special by several ways. First, it has a super crisp 18 karat yellow gold case and rivet oyster bracelet. This kind of bracelet is rare, especially when tight and well preserved like here. But the true cool factor of this piece is the dial. This rare configuration features unusual indexes with onyx inlays at 6 and 9 and a black crown, also made in onyx. A rare gem.
