1970s Heuer Camaro 7220 S first generation
In 1968, Heuer introduced the Camaro, a tribute to the legendary car of the same name. It would adapt an entirely new cushion-shaped case, the brand’s first move away from traditional round cases. The Camaro was popular with racers, with most models offered with a tachymeter scale on the dial. The cushion shape is to be considered as the forerunner of the square Monaco.
The Heuer Camaro line is the quintessential 70s chronograph. This cushion case is uber-cool, uncommon this days, thus a must-have. Among the various models, we always had a preference for the exotic Camaro, especially with this deep blue panda look and the dashes of orange brought by the hands.
This example features a crisp and unpolished steel case, showing the nice original brushed lines, round pushers, as most often seen and expected on 1 execution models, polished hands and a crisp white dial, perfectly complimented by the lume patina. Last but not least, its legendary Valjoux 72 movement confirms its true racing roots.
