1970s Piaget ultra thin made for Félix Houphouët-Boigny
Piaget is a famous Swiss watch and jewellery brand founded in 1874 by Georges-Edouard Piaget. Initially specialising in the manufacture of watch movements, the brand later diversified into the creation of luxury watches and fine jewellery. Piaget is known for its elegant designs, craftsmanship and ultra-thin movements.
Félix Houphouët-Boigny was a prominent political figure in Ivory Coast and a key figure in the country’s struggle for independence from French colonial rule. He served as the first President of Ivory Coast from 1960 until his death in 1993, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in African history.
During the 1970s, he ordered to Piaget 70 watches with his face on the dial, for personal use or for gifts. This watches are rare and as they were produced under several references, each model has only be made in a handful of examples, sometimes only one.
This one is a dresswatch built around the 12P extra flat caliber, in a 18 carat yellow gold case. The condition is excellent, the case being unpolished and slightly patinated, showing very few usage.
