1970’s Vacheron Constantin Dual time ref. 2088 in yellow gold
As the oldest watch brand in the world, in continuous operation since its foundation in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts as early as 1839. Vacheron watches are admired for their Latin-influenced cases, well-balanced proportions, and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality.
The Geneva manufacture is known for its highly complicated masterpieces, including the Grande Complication du Roi Farouk, the Tour de l’Ile, and masterpieces such as the traditional line, the 222, the Overseas or the Calatrava.
This reference 2088 is part of the Traditional line from the 1970’s, illustrating the exceptional craftsmanship of the maison Vacheron & Constantin.
We feel the expertise as soon as we see the work made on the solid 18k yellow 30mm case, bracelet and buckle. Just imagine the time spending on working by hand to engrave the whole.
Apart from the excellent work done on the gold, the watch is thoughtfully thought out.
Nicknamed Dual Time, it takes its name from this display of two time zones which differs greatly from a bezel + hands classic gmt display. Here we have Vacheron’s interpretation of the dual time zone, adjustable by the crowns at 3 and 9 o’clock. In reality, these are two hand-wound Vacheron Constantin cal. K1050/8 which do the trick.
On the lightly brushed dial, the applied gold indexes as well as the black sword hands stand out particularly well.
