1973 Longines Serge Manzon 925 sterling silver ref.5014

Founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz Longines has always played a great role in the watchmaking industry for its watches and movements which, even today, are considered as some of the greatest of all time. Consider as one of Switzerland’s largest manufacturers, Longines was an important supplier of tool watches to military forces of multiple nations.

Their vintage wristwatches continue to grow in desirability amongst collectors. Some of the most sought-after models include such oversized chronographs as the Lindbergh Hour Angle designed by Charles Lindbergh, Chronostop, Tre Tacche, A-7, Tasti a Spillo, Conquest and Doppia Lanchetta.

This ultra rare heavy silver rectangular with offset square pivoted lugs has an uncommon design made by Serge Manzon. Serge Manzon was asked to create a line of watches that stands out from its classic collections, capable of transforming a belt buckle into a watch case… It emanates soft, pure and supple forms – silver sculptures as aesthetic as they are contemporary. He succeeds in creating unique designs of watches both elegant and extravagant. The dial keeps the essence of the case with its smoked silver, and the quarter-hour sectors guide by thin silvered baton hands.

Mechanically, the watch is one of Longines’ first Electro-mechanical watches using a magnet to pulse a more traditional watch balance, the caliber 7102, which was replaced later by the quartz innovation.
