Cartier Tank Must de Cartier "lapis lazuli style" dial

1980 | Gold Plated | Manual | 23.0mm

Sale price€2.400,00

Few watches have achieved the cultural permanence of the Cartier Tank. Born in 1917 — inspired, as the story goes, by Louis Cartier's view of Renault FT-17 tanks on the Western Front — it has graced the wrists of everyone from Andy Warhol to Jackie Kennedy without ever feeling out of place. The Must de Cartier line, launched in the 1970s, made that icon accessible: a 925 silver case, gold-plated, housing a manually wound movement, at a price that brought Cartier within reach without compromise on style.

This example stands out for its blue lacquer dial — a deep, midnight finish evoking lapis lazuli, with subtle golden specks emerging through the lacquer that give it an almost celestial quality. Paired with the gold-plated case, blued steel hands, and blue cabochon crown, the colour coordination is effortless. The movement, an ETA 78-1 manual wind, runs as it should.

The case presents in very good condition with no plating loss — a genuinely important detail on these gold-plated pieces, and rarer than you'd think. It retains its original Cartier buckle.
