A. Lange & Söhne disappeared behind the Iron Curtain in 1948 and re-emerged in 1994 with a single, uncompromising statement: German watchmaking at its highest level, or nothing at all.

The Saxonia is the purest expression of that return — a round case, a clean dial, a manually wound movement finished to standards that make most Swiss contemporaries look casual. Named after the Saxon region where the manufacture has been based since 1845, it carries the weight of a tradition interrupted and then resumed without compromise.

Reference 216.032 in rose gold presents the Saxonia in its most refined configuration.

The dial is a study in restraint: applied rose gold indices, slender hands, the characteristic outsize date — Lange's signature complication, displayed through a double aperture that dominates the dial with elegant authority.

The typography is precise, the spacing deliberate. Every element has been considered to the point where nothing can be added or removed.

The movement within — visible through the sapphire caseback on production examples of this reference — is finished in the German tradition: three-quarter plate in untreated German silver, hand-engraved balance cock, blued screws, bevelled and polished edges throughout. It is finishing that rewards magnification, and that no photograph fully captures.
