Blancpain Villeret Skeleton in Platinum

1990 | Platinum | Manual | 34.0mm

Sale price€15.900,00

Blancpain's commitment to mechanical watchmaking has never been merely commercial — it is constitutional.

When the manufacture relaunched in 1983 with its founding principle of no quartz, ever, the skeleton watch was among the first complications it pursued: not as decoration, but as a demonstration.

A skeletonised movement is watchmaking made transparent, every component exposed to scrutiny, every surface requiring finishing on all sides rather than just the visible one. There is nowhere to hide.

This Villeret Skeleton in platinum takes that transparency to its most demanding conclusion.

The movement has been meticulously openworked by hand — the bridges and plates carved away to their structural minimum, the remaining surfaces bevelled, polished, and anglaged to the standard that platinum cases demand and that very few movements can justify.

The red jewels, the gilded gear train, and the polished steel bridges create a composition of considerable depth visible through the enamel chapter ring carrying Blancpain's Roman numerals.

Platinum was the correct choice for a piece of this ambition — the metal's weight and cool neutrality frame the movement without competing with it, and its rarity matches that of the edition itself.

Produced in a limited run of just 50 examples, this is number 11 — among the earliest of the series, and documented as such. The original buckle accompanies it.

Fifty pieces in platinum, each individually numbered. A Blancpain for the collector who understands what that means.

Blancpain

Blancpain, founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in Villeret, Switzerland, is one of the oldest and most prestigious Swiss watchmaking houses. With over 280 years of history, Blancpain is known for its dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and a commitment to the art of traditional watchmaking.

Blancpain’s early success was built on its production of high-quality pocket watches and later complicated timepieces, including watches with minute repeaters and perpetual calendars. By the 19th century, Blancpain had established a reputation for creating some of the most precise and intricate watches of the time.

In the 1950s, Blancpain revolutionized the watch world with the introduction of the Fifty Fathoms, a pioneering diver’s watch that is still highly regarded today. Designed in collaboration with professional divers, the Fifty Fathoms featured a rotating bezel and water resistance—features that have become standard in modern dive watches.
