Breguet Type 20 "Ministère de l'Air" with Archive Extract

1957 | Stainless steel | Manual | 38.0mm

Sale price€26.500,00

The Breguet Type 20 “Ministère de l’Air” is a historically important military chronograph commissioned by the French Air Ministry in the 1950s and delivered to the nation’s air forces.

This authentic example, made in 1957 and accompanied by its Breguet Archive Extract, features a 38mm stainless steel case with bi-directional coin-edge bezel, black luminous dial, and flyback chronograph functionality — all hallmarks of the original military specification. Powered by the Valjoux 222 hand-wound movement, it combines rugged precision with classic Breguet refinement.

Condition is extremely good, case is sharp and unpolished, showing the 8 service guarranty dates on the back, along with the "P" stamp, indicating it was, at some point, serviced in Fernand Pechoin's workshop. Dial and hands show a very nice patina. All parts are original, for an overall stunning piece.

Breguet

Founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet in Paris, Breguet is one of the oldest and most historically significant watchmakers in the world. Renowned as a pioneer of horological innovation, Breguet introduced groundbreaking inventions such as the tourbillon, the Breguet balance spring, and the first wristwatch, created in 1812 for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. His clients included European royalty, intellectuals, and influential figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Marie Antoinette. Breguet’s aesthetic codes—fluted casebands, blued hands, and guilloché dials—remain hallmarks of the brand’s identity and have defined classical watch design for over two centuries.

Now headquartered in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, and part of the Swatch Group, Breguet continues to honor its legacy through exquisite craftsmanship and technical excellence. The brand maintains an in-house approach to manufacturing, producing highly finished calibers that often incorporate complications such as perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, and tourbillons. Contemporary Breguet collections like the Classique, Marine, and Tradition reflect the maison’s dedication to heritage while embracing modern advancements. Each timepiece is a testament to Breguet’s enduring influence on fine watchmaking and its ongoing role in shaping horological history.
