Frédéric Constant

Frédérique Constant is a relatively young Swiss watch brand, founded in 1988 in Geneva by husband-and-wife team Aletta Bax and Peter Stas with the vision of creating Swiss-made luxury watches at more accessible prices. The company name combines the founders’ family names: Aletta’s great-grandmother was Frédérique Schreiner and Peter’s great-grandfather was Constant Stas, who had founded a company producing printed watch dials in 1904. From the outset, Frédérique Constant emphasized classic design and in-house development, releasing its first collection in 1992. By 2004, the brand had introduced its first in-house caliber, and in 2008 it unveiled a tourbillon with a silicium escapement, underscoring its technical ambitions. In 2015, Frédérique Constant made waves with the Horological Smartwatch, one of the first Swiss-made smartwatches, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. That same year, the brand was acquired by the Citizen Group, though Peter and Aletta Stas continued to play key roles in its direction. Today, Frédérique Constant is celebrated for offering finely crafted complications—such as perpetual calendars, tourbillons, and worldtimers—at competitive prices, staying true to its philosophy of delivering “accessible luxury” while steadily building its reputation in the world of Swiss horology.
