In the late 1930s and early 1940s, several Swiss manufactures converged on the same formal proposition: a round steel case of around 31mm, a clean dial, a small seconds subdial, and a manually wound movement of genuine quality. Patek Philippe's reference 96 is the most celebrated expression of this ideal — and the IWC produced here is its spiritual twin, sharing the same proportions, the same visual philosophy, and the same sense that a watch needs nothing beyond what it already has.
