Jaeger-LeCoultre Étrier reference 9041 — Bicolour dial, original buckle

1970 | Stainless steel | Manual | 24.0mm

Sale price€3.800,00

This Étrier — French for "stirrup," a nod to its distinctive rectangular case carried by two arched lugs — is one of Jaeger-LeCoultre's more quietly daring designs from the 1970s. An era when the Vallée de Joux was experimenting boldly with case architecture, the Étrier stands apart: architectural without being aggressive, elegant without being conventional.

The 28.5 x 43mm steel case frames a dial that rewards a second look. A grey anthracite centre is overlaid with a cream-toned oval chapter ring bearing Roman numerals — a two-tone composition that feels more graphic design than watchmaking, in the best possible sense. The whole is powered by calibre 818/2, a slim manual-wind movement entirely appropriate to the dress ambitions of the watch.

This example presents in excellent condition, with the case retaining its clean lines and the dial showing beautifully. It comes with its original buckle, a detail that completes the picture.

A refined piece of 1970s JLC design that has aged with considerable grace.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Established in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre in the Swiss Vallée de Joux, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been at the forefront of horological innovation. Known as the "watchmaker’s watchmaker," it has developed some of the most intricate and complicated movements in history, including the Reverso in 1931, a timepiece with a reversible case originally designed for polo players. Jaeger-LeCoultre has also introduced groundbreaking innovations like the Master Ultra Thin and Geophysic collections.

The brand is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, creating not only technically advanced movements but also dials and cases of unparalleled beauty. Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to be a leader in haute horlogerie, combining technical expertise with artistic vision. The Reverso, in particular, remains one of the most iconic and recognizable designs in watchmaking, embodying the perfect blend of functionality and style.
