Jaeger-LeCoultre entered the automatic era in 1946 with the caliber 476, and two years later refined it into the caliber 481, the movement behind this watch. What made the 481 genuinely significant was its power reserve indicator, the first time a manufacturer offered this complication as a standard production feature rather than a one-off experiment. It runs on a bumper winding system, the rotor swinging back and forth against two springs rather than spinning freely, a mechanical solution particular to this early generation of automatics.

This example measures 33.5mm in steel and wears a cream dial with the reserve indicator set at 12 o'clock, showing the remaining hours through its small red and white window. The blued steel hands and printed Arabic numerals sit cleanly against the dial, with no signs of the staining or fading that so often affects watches of this period.

Condition here is immaculate, honestly among the best examples of this reference we have come across. A quiet, historically important watch that rewards a closer look.
