Movado dress watch made for Chaumet
1960 | Yellow gold | Manual | 33.0mm
Chaumet has been a Paris jeweller since 1780, when Marie-Étienne Nitot founded the house that would go on to serve Napoleon. In 1907, Joseph Chaumet moved it to 12 Place Vendôme, where it still stands. Like other great jewellers of the time, Chaumet turned to a serious Swiss manufacture for its watches, and here that partner was Movado: the jeweller signed the dial, Movado made the watch. Chaumet watches of this kind very rarely come up today.
This one is pure mid-century elegance. The 33mm case is 18k yellow gold, slim and clean, and the champagne sunburst dial is kept to the essentials: applied gold batons, a small Chaumet emblem above the signature and fine gold hands. The Chaumet serial number engraved on the caseback ties the watch to the house. It is in excellent condition and comes on its original Chaumet strap with its original Movado buckle.
A Place Vendôme name, Swiss watchmaking inside, and the kind of discretion that never goes out of style.
