Omega Constellation in 18 karat yellow gold with dual tone waffle dial

1950 | Yellow gold | Automatic | 34.0mm

Sale price€6.800,00

Omega launched the Constellation in 1952 as its chronometer line, the brand’s first mass-produced wristwatch built to certified precision standards, marked by the observatory medallion and its crown of eight stars on the caseback. The earliest examples from this period came with a range of distinctive dial textures, among them the raised, honeycomb-like pattern collectors now call the waffle dial, a design quickly phased out in favor of the better known pie-pan dial that followed.

This example is cased in solid 18 karat yellow gold, with the two-tone waffle dial showing that period correct raised texture at the center, framed by a crisp chapter ring with applied gold Arabic numerals and batons. It’s an early and genuinely scarce configuration within the Constellation’s long history, well before the model settled into its more familiar look.

Condition is very good throughout. A real find for anyone chasing the lesser known first chapter of Omega’s chronometer story.

Omega

Founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Omega has grown to become one of the most renowned and respected names in the world of horology. In 1894, Omega revolutionized watchmaking with the introduction of the 19-ligne "Omega" caliber, known for its groundbreaking precision and ease of repair. This innovation marked a turning point for the company, which was soon renamed "Omega" in recognition of the caliber's success.

Omega's reputation for accuracy was further solidified when it became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games in 1932, a role it still holds today. The brand’s dedication to precision was also demonstrated in 1969, when the Omega Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the Moon during NASA's Apollo 11 mission. Over the decades, Omega has introduced iconic collections such as the Seamaster, Speedmaster, and Constellation, blending cutting-edge technology with elegant design. Omega watches are not only known for their technical excellence but also for their association with explorers, athletes, and adventurers who push the limits of human achievement.
