Omega De Ville reference 166.094 "Disco Volante" — Grey dial

1970 | Stainless steel | Automatic | 40.4mm

Sale price€1.800,00

The "Disco Volante" — flying saucer in Italian — is the nickname collectors have affectionately given to this generation of Omega De Ville, and one look explains why. The case architecture is unlike anything else from the period: a broad, stepped bezel with concentric ridges that seem to orbit the dial rather than simply frame it, giving the watch an almost sculptural presence on the wrist. Produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s, it sits at the intersection of Swiss dress watchmaking and the era's appetite for bold, futuristic design.

Reference 166.094 carries a dark grey dial — a warm, slightly smoky tone that reads differently in every light, somewhere between grey and brown, and infinitely more interesting than plain black. Applied baton indices and a discreet date aperture at 3 o'clock complete a remarkably balanced composition.

This example presents in excellent unpolished condition, with the case retaining its original surfaces and the dial showing cleanly without blemishes. A watch that wears its age honestly — and all the better for it.

For anyone who finds conventional round watches a little predictable, this is the answer.

Omega

Founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Omega has grown to become one of the most renowned and respected names in the world of horology. In 1894, Omega revolutionized watchmaking with the introduction of the 19-ligne "Omega" caliber, known for its groundbreaking precision and ease of repair. This innovation marked a turning point for the company, which was soon renamed "Omega" in recognition of the caliber's success.

Omega's reputation for accuracy was further solidified when it became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games in 1932, a role it still holds today. The brand’s dedication to precision was also demonstrated in 1969, when the Omega Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the Moon during NASA's Apollo 11 mission. Over the decades, Omega has introduced iconic collections such as the Seamaster, Speedmaster, and Constellation, blending cutting-edge technology with elegant design. Omega watches are not only known for their technical excellence but also for their association with explorers, athletes, and adventurers who push the limits of human achievement.
