Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse ref. 3548 in 18k White Gold

1970 | White gold | Manual | 27.0mm

Sale price€15.900,00

The Golden Ellipse was born in 1968 from a precise mathematical idea: the golden ratio, applied to a watch case. The result is an oval that feels neither round nor rectangular, but somehow more resolved than either — a shape that sits on the wrist with a naturalness that more conventional geometries rarely achieve. Reference 3548 is among the earliest expressions of this design, in 18k white gold, and it carries the quiet authority of a watch that knew exactly what it was from the first sketch.

The silver sunburst dial — restored — presents cleanly, its radial brushing catching light from centre to edge in the characteristic way that made this dial configuration so suited to the Ellipse's proportions. Applied baton indices in white gold and slender hands complete a composition of deliberate restraint. The movement is calibre 175, a manually wound manufacture calibre of exceptional thinness, the only appropriate choice for a case profile this flat and this pure.

In white gold, the Ellipse takes on a cooler, more architectural character than the yellow gold variants — the metal's neutral tone allowing the case geometry to speak entirely for itself.

This example is presented on its original strap and buckle, a detail that confirms the watch has been kept with care. A Golden Ellipse reference 3548 in white gold, complete with its original accessories, is an increasingly uncommon proposition.
