Rolex Day-Date in yellow gold
1976 | Yellow gold | Automatic | 36.0mm
When Rolex introduced the Day-Date in 1956, it was the first wristwatch to show the day of the week spelled out in full, next to the date. Reference 1803 followed in 1959 and stayed in production until the late 1970s, one of the longest runs in the brand's history. For many collectors, it is the Day-Date in its purest form. The last digit of the reference gives the bezel type, and the 3 means fluted, exactly what you see here.
The case is 18k yellow gold, 36mm, with a champagne dial, applied gold baton markers and a matching handset. The "T Swiss T" signature at six o'clock tells you the dial dates from the tritium years. Look at the twelve o'clock window: the day reads "SABADO", a Spanish day wheel that gives this watch a little more personality than the usual English version. The watch is in excellent condition overall and comes on a brown leather strap.
A gold Day-Date on leather is the understated way to wear one. Quietly elegant, and with a few things worth discovering once it's on the wrist.
