Rolex Disco Volante reference 9522 with salmon dial
1961 | Yellow gold | Manual | 36.0mm
Collectors call it the “Disco Volante”, the flying saucer. Of all the dress watches Rolex made in the 1960s, the reference 9522 in this version is probably the most striking: a wide, rounded case with no lugs at all, the strap simply disappearing underneath. It looks nothing like what most people picture when they hear the word Rolex, and that is precisely its charm.
The 36mm yellow gold case is framed by a radiating engraved bezel, and the salmon dial is kept as clean as possible: applied gold crown, “Rolex Precision” in black, gold dauphine hands and a small seconds at six with a fine cross. It is powered by the manual-wind calibre 1000. The watch is in outstanding condition and comes on a black leather strap with its Rolex buckle.
A salmon dial, a gold saucer and a crown. Few Rolex watches have this much personality.
