Zenith Defy reference A3642 "Cassaforte" with grey dial

1970 | Stainless steel | Automatic | 38.0mm

Sale price€1.800,00

The Zenith Defy was introduced in 1969 as the maison's answer to the growing demand for robust, water-resistant sport watches. Its name said everything: defy. The case was engineered for resilience — thick, tightly sealed, built to take whatever its owner threw at it. Italian collectors would later nickname it "Cassaforte" — safe, as in bank vault — a tribute to the fortress-like construction that made it a reference among tool watches of the era.

Reference A3642 presents in its three-hand configuration — a cleaner, more versatile proposition than the chronograph variants, and arguably the more wearable daily companion. The grey dial is in superb condition, its surface unmarked and even, with the kind of presence that only a well-preserved original dial can deliver.

The steel case shows polishing, which softens the original lines somewhat — an honest detail worth noting. The watch wears on a generic strap, leaving the next owner free to choose their own.

For the collector who values engineering conviction over decorative ambition, the Defy Cassaforte makes a compelling case — literally and figuratively.
