Zenith Defy réf. A3690 with original Gay Freres ladder bracelet

The original Defy (the one from 1969 to 1973, not the revival) is one of the most architecturally convincing pieces Le Locle ever produced. The multi-faceted octagonal case, engineered for shock and water resistance, catches light differently from every angle. It owes nothing to anyone, and seen today it looks more contemporary than most current production.

The turquoise dial darkens toward the edges in a vignette effect that gives the watch real visual presence. Applied ladder indices, date aperture at 4:30, the "Zenith automatic 28800 Defy" signature  everything where it should be, on a surface that has lost nothing of its original intensity.

The unpolished case is a critical point on these Defy references. The octagonal facets lose all their definition at the first polishing and finding an example with its original surfaces intact has become the exception rather than the rule, and this one has them.

The original Gay Frères scale bracelet completes the picture. Gay Frères equipped the greatest Swiss houses of the era, and finding its original bracelet still paired with a Defy of this generation is, in itself, an additional rarity.
