Breguet Type XX Aéronavale Ref. 3800 1st generation

Acier inoxydable | Automatique | 39.0 mm

Prix de vente€6.800,00

The Type XX traces back to the 1950s, when the French Naval Air Force asked Breguet for a rugged chronograph with a flyback function, one that let pilots restart timing instantly mid-flight. Breguet revived that heritage in 1994 with reference 3800, staying close to the original in spirit and proportions, and the first run, produced until around 1995 before minor updates followed, is the one collectors chase hardest today. One detail sets these early pieces apart from every generation that followed: the winding crown carries a gold cap, a small touch reserved exclusively for the first series and often lost over the years, as many were swapped out during servicing.

This example wears the black dial with cream Arabic numerals and matching luminous hands that have taken on a warm, honest patina, set against a 39mm steel case and a bidirectional rotating bezel, its crown still fitted with that gold cap. Inside sits the automatic caliber 582, based on the Lemania 1350, driving the flyback chronograph across its three subdials.

Overall condition is very good, the case retaining sharp lines and the dial clean. It comes with its original steel Breguet buckle, a small but telling detail on a watch built to be worn hard.

A genuine piece of aviation history, still ready for daily wear.

Breguet

Founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet in Paris, Breguet is one of the oldest and most historically significant watchmakers in the world. Renowned as a pioneer of horological innovation, Breguet introduced groundbreaking inventions such as the tourbillon, the Breguet balance spring, and the first wristwatch, created in 1812 for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. His clients included European royalty, intellectuals, and influential figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Marie Antoinette. Breguet’s aesthetic codes—fluted casebands, blued hands, and guilloché dials—remain hallmarks of the brand’s identity and have defined classical watch design for over two centuries.

Now headquartered in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, and part of the Swatch Group, Breguet continues to honor its legacy through exquisite craftsmanship and technical excellence. The brand maintains an in-house approach to manufacturing, producing highly finished calibers that often incorporate complications such as perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, and tourbillons. Contemporary Breguet collections like the Classique, Marine, and Tradition reflect the maison’s dedication to heritage while embracing modern advancements. Each timepiece is a testament to Breguet’s enduring influence on fine watchmaking and its ongoing role in shaping horological history.
