Jaeger Vintage Chronograph made by Universal Genève in stainless steel
Acier inoxydable | Manuel | 35.0 mm
Duing the 40s and 50s, the brand "Jaeger" was used independently in certain markets , and on certain pieces, the movement and case came not from the Vallée de Joux, but from Universal Genève. This watch is one of those fascinating crossover pieces: a chronograph signed Jaeger on the dial, powered by Universal Genève's own calibre 285, with a case bearing UG's signature as well. A genuine collaboration between two of Switzerland's most respected names, hidden in plain sight behind a single name on the dial.
The silver dial follows the classic two-register chronograph layout of the period: large painted Arabic numerals at the cardinal points, a 45-minute counter at 9 o'clock, and running seconds at 3, both registers finished with the fine concentric guilloché texture typical of high-quality dials of the era. Blued steel hands, including the elegant lance-shaped chronograph seconds hand, complete a dial of considerable period charm. The tachymeter scale runs the full periphery.
The steel case presents in remarkable, near-mint condition, the kind of preservation that is genuinely rare for a chronograph of this age, with sharp lines and a dial free of significant blemish.
A piece of horological cross-pollination, in outstanding condition. The kind of detail that rewards those who look closely.
